West Hampstead NW2

Astonworld Ltd are proud to have been appointed by the Amar-Frances Foster-Jenkins Trust as the main contractor for this ambitious project, to convert this large house into high-quality accommodation for post-graduate students of the arts, who will be able to hone their creative skills within a specific design space.
The house is situated in the Mapesbury Conservation Area in North London.  It will undergo a major internal refurbishment, remodelling and extension additions at the rear.  The rear gardens are being transformed and will include a purpose-built Rehearsal Room, that has been tailored to provide an exceptional acoustic environment.  This rehearsal room is being structured using a glued, laminated timber called Glulam, which consists of layers of dimensional timber bonded together with durable, moisture-resistant, structural adhesives.  Glulam is vastly superior in strength to standard solid timber, has fewer natural defects and boasts a wider distribution. It's also comparable to steel in strength but with the benefits of it being much lighter.

The main house will include a series of en-suite study bedrooms and communal living spaces. There will be one bedroom on the ground floor, four bedrooms on the first floor and two bedrooms on the second floor. As you can see from the architects visualisations, this project is going to be a modern, state-of-the-art property that will enable the students lucky enough to live here, to be able to further enhance and nurture their abilities.

The Amar-Frances Foster-Jenkins Trust is a charity that provides bursaries and accommodation for talented post-graduate students – they do this in both the fields of the Arts and Sciences.
